Yesterday was a bit of a whirlwind. I woke up around 10 to frantically finish reading the history chapter we had due before class started at 11:30. No worries, everything was finished! First, I had my two hour seminar in Tudor Stuart history which was as fascinating as I thought it would be. I will admit I was very apprehensive about Oxford level work that we were doing but our professor is really down to earth and since our class is so small, the discussion remained constant. As a result, the two hours went by really quickly! Next, I had my Shakespeare class with a real Oxford professor. Basically, I'm obsessed with her. Not only is she British, but she has a wild sense of humor and made all of us laugh/feel at home. I should dedicate a hash tag to her: #youknowyourprofessorisbritishwhen she recommends pubs for you to try or #youknowyourprofessorisbritishwhen she makes raunchy sex jokes about the tv show, the Tudors.
Yes, now you understand my obsession. Plus even better news is we share the same name so that means that by association, she must think I'm cool too. Not really, but wouldn't that be awesome.
Next, a couple of girls and I took a bus to City Center to go exploring. We went to a department store whose name I absolutely can't remember....but we tried talking to the British sales clerk but again he wasn't very friendly. Next, we finally found the Primark that I've been obsessing over---oh.my.gosh. I finally found my clothing heaven. Mom, I promise I made smart buys that I can wear to work!!! Unfortunately, it started pouring at this point and my TOMS got SOAKED so we headed up the hill to the Eagle and Child, a famous pub where Tolkien and C.S. Lewis used to congregate to discuss their works---awesome right?! We even got a window seat! All huddled together we shared our (legal!) drinks with dinner---most people got fish and chips but since I'm allergic to seafood, I got an amazing chicken and bacon sandwich. YUM. Afterwards we bought some more groceries and hopped on a bus where a friend of mine left her wallet! All is well now I think. Next, all of the girls had talked about maybe exploring the other famous pubs downtown but we ended up just hanging out in our room instead. What a fun night! We are waking up really early tomorrow for our first Shakespeare play, I Cinna, which while exciting, doesn't make me smile given its early curtain. Love to all and to all a goodnight!
